The sharp, cathedral-like Passu Cones are one of the most-searched photo spots on a Hunza trip. Here is how to see them, the nearby Passu Glacier and Hussaini Bridge, and when to go.

The Most Photographed Peaks in Hunza

The Passu Cones, locally called Tupopdan or "Passu Cathedral," are a row of sharp, jagged peaks rising to over 6,100 meters above Passu village in Upper Hunza's Gojal Valley. Their dramatic shape against the sky has made them one of the most photographed mountain views in all of Pakistan, and a fixture on almost every Hunza itinerary.

What Else to See Around Passu

Passu village sits directly on the Karakoram Highway, making it an easy stop on the way to or from Khunjerab Pass, and the area has several other highlights worth combining into the same visit.

  • Passu Glacier: a large glacier visible from the highway, with a short walk leading closer to its base
  • Hussaini Suspension Bridge: one of the most famous (and wobbliest) suspension bridges in Pakistan, just south of Passu
  • Borith Lake: a quiet saline lake a short drive above Passu, popular for sunrise and sunset photography
  • Batura Glacier: one of the longest glaciers outside the polar regions, visible from the highway near Passu

Best Time and Photography Tips

The Passu Cones are visible year-round, but late afternoon light gives the sharpest contrast and color on the peaks. Spring and autumn offer the clearest skies, while winter dusts the cones and surrounding ridgelines with snow for an even more dramatic look.

Planning Your Visit

Passu is typically visited as a stop between Karimabad and Khunjerab Pass on any Hunza Valley tour, making it easy to combine with Attabad Lake and the Khunjerab border crossing in a single day. The Trekkers Pakistan includes Passu, the Hussaini Bridge and Passu Glacier as standard stops on our Hunza Valley and Hunza & Skardu combined itineraries.
